In Valley Park Early Childhood, our youngest learners are building skills today that prepare them for what comes next.

Learning in Preschool and Pre-K is intentionally designed to grow from year to year. Through hands-on experiences, purposeful play and explicit instruction, students build early academic skills while also learning how to communicate, collaborate, follow structures and routines and become more independent learners.

Recently, students created family paintings to help them learn and talk about the people who are important to them, strengthening communication while supporting a culture of belonging. They painted alongside friends, practicing cooperation, collaboration and sharing. And while creating name posters, students practiced recognizing and forming the first letters of their names, building early literacy skills they’ll continue developing in Pre-K and Kindergarten.

These experiences may look simple, but each one is part of an intentional progression. Teachers provide opportunities for engagement, observe evidence of learning and give feedback that helps students continue building on what they already know and can do.

From Preschool to Pre-K and eventually Kindergarten, each new skill becomes a building block for the next.
