Today, in honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, we honor Louis Armstrong. Louis Armstrong, nicknamed "Satchmo," "Pops" and, later, "Ambassador Satch," was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. An all-star virtuoso, he came to prominence in the 1920s, influencing countless musicians with both his daring trumpet style and unique vocals.
Armstrong's charismatic stage presence impressed not only the jazz world but all of popular music. He recorded several songs throughout his career, including he is known for songs like "Star Dust," "La Vie En Rose" and "What a Wonderful World."
Since his death, Armstrong's stature has only continued to grow. In the 1980s and '90s, younger African American jazz musicians like Wynton Marsalis, Jon Faddis and Nicholas Payton began speaking about Armstrong's importance, both as a musician and a human being.
A series of new biographies on Armstrong made his role as a civil rights pioneer abundantly clear and, subsequently, argued for an embrace of his entire career's output, not just the revolutionary recordings from the 1920s.

After a rough snowstorm, our maintenance team jumped in and worked hard to clear our parking lots and get everything ready for school. Cold temps and a lot of effort made it possible for students and staff to arrive safely. We appreciate you more than you know! 💙🧡 #VPPride

“This partnership reflects our commitment to preparing students for limitless opportunities beyond graduation,” said Dr. Dilg, Superintendent of Valley Park School District. “Through the Youth Apprenticeship Accelerator, students gain real-world experience, build durable skills, and connect their learning to future careers. It reinforces our belief that personalized, authentic learning is essential to preparing students for high-demand opportunities after high school.”

Three candidates have filed for three open seats on the Valley Park Board of Education. Because the number of candidates matches the number of available positions, state statute allows the Valley Park School District to appoint board members this year rather than hold an election for the three-year terms.
Congratulations to our newly appointed board members. We’re excited to welcome one new face, Elicia Bailey, and recognize two returning members, Lisa Finder and Rebecca Menley, who will continue serving on the board.
The Valley Park School District Board of Education plays a vital role in guiding our schools through thoughtful leadership, community perspective, and student-focused decision making. We’re fortunate to have such a dedicated group of community leaders serving our district.
These members will join the current board, including Kim Bellchamber, Phyllis Geary, Pete Coates, and Yasmin Chittakhone.
The newly appointed board members will be sworn in at the April 15 School Board Reorganization Meeting.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to our departing board member, Rich Schmitt, for his years of service to the Valley Park School District. His student-centered leadership, experience, and voice have made a lasting impact, and he will be greatly missed. Thank you for your service. 💙🧡 #VPPride
